Happy Neurotransmitters

Cacao contains a chemical called tryptophan which causes the release of serotonin in the brain and increases the levels of endorphins which work to lessen pain and decrease stress. It is a neurotransmitter that communicates a feeling of calm to the brain and helps to stabilize moods.

Endorphins are another chemical that acts to send high levels of energy and feelings of euphoria to the brain. In addition, endorphins have been shown to be effective painkillers, much like morphine. Both serotonin and endorphins are released when chocolate is eaten and, in turn, bring on a sense of well-being.

The Love Molecule - Phenethylamine

Phenethylamine, or PEA, is a unique neurotransmitter, a natural monoamine alkaloid, trace amine, and psychoactive drug with stimulant effects increasing focus and alertness sometimes known as 'chocolate amphetamine'.  PEA is a chemical associated with adrenal health. It is created within the brain and released when we are in love.
